The St. Louis Cardinals will look to extend their lead in the second National League Wild Card spot tonight as they again take on the Braves in Atlanta.
“Ready to go, man,” smiled Kolten Wong on Sunday. “We’ve got all the teams that we’ve got to beat right in front of us. Put our heads down, get to work, and we’ll see what happens in a couple of weeks.”
By nature of their 11-6 win last night and the Los Angeles Dodgers beating Colorado, the Cardinals enter tonight 0.5 games ahead of the Rockies. LA is now leading the NL West.
Wong had three hits, including his 9th home run, and drove in three runs in last night’s win. Since the All-Star break, he leads the Cardinals with a .314 average (33-104) and has hit safely in six of nine games since returning from the disabled list on September 5th.
“We’re not worried about who we’re playing against,” added Wong. “We know that everybody is important and every game is important from now on.”
Just as a side note, Wong is one hit by pitch (54) away from moving past Stan Musial for 8th place in Cardinals franchise history.
