The roster moves continue for the St. Louis Cardinals as the team has announced the trade of Tommy Pham and International Cap Space to Tampa in exchange for three minor league prospects: OF Justin Williams, LHP Genesis Cabrera, and RHP Roel Ramirez.
The 22-year old Williams is a left-handed hitting outfielder, who was batting .258 with 8 home runs and 46 RBI for the Durham Bulls (AAA) this season. Originally selected by Arizona (52nd overall) in the 2nd round of the 2013 draft, Williams made his MLB debut earlier this month and was hitless in one plate appearance.
Cabrera owns a 7-6 mark with a 4.12 ERA in 21 games (20 starts) for Montgomery of the Southern League (AA) this year. He is 21 years old and struck out 124 batters in 113.2 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .218 batting mark.
Ramirez also pitched at Montgomery, as a reliever, and was 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA in 26 games for the Biscuits. The 23-year old struck out 46 batters in 40.2 innings.
Available, but not in the lineup last night, Pham was batting .248 this season with 14 homers and 41 runs batted in.
The Cardinals also announced that outfielder Tyler O’Neill and pitcher Tyler Webb have been recalled from Memphis (AAA). The team has also placed pitcher Carlos Martinez on the 10-day disabled list with a shoulder strain.
