(Busch Stadium) After going on the Injured List with a lower back strain, St. Louis Cardinals infielder Jedd Gyorko will undergo surgery for an altogether different injury on Monday.
“Jedd Gyorko is going to have a minor arthroscopic procedure on his right wrist,” Cardinals manager Mike Shildt shared. “No structural damage. Nothing compromised in that regard. Just a cleanup, something he’s been dealing with. He’s been getting shots for the last couple of years.”
Having already missed 14 games, the timetable for Gyorko’s return is not clear.
“We’re going to put a very vague return because that’s what we have,” Shildt said. “Return to baseball activities is 3-ish weeks type thing.”
Eligible to return from the IL on June 8th, Gyorko aggravated his left calf while working on the bases. That extra injury is allowing for the attention on his wrist.
“The calf was going to be somewhat parallel with that timing,” Shildt said. “The shots are working, but they’re masking something that needs to be corrected.”
Gyorko has appeared in 38 games for St. Louis this season and has hit a pair of home runs with seven RBIs.
