As expected, St. Louis Cardinals lefthander Kevin Siegrist was back on the mound Thursday. He had been held out of his last scheduled bullpen on Monday after experiencing some tightness in his arm. “I just felt a little tightness in an area that I never really had tightness in before, so just getting ahead of that and it’s fine now,” explained the lefty.
“We’ve got flex days,” explained Manager Mike Matheny, who said Siegrist wanted to throw. “We’ve got days built-in, especially for the starters, where it’s a day where a guy can go or we may give him an extra one.”
“Kevin’s in a good spot. He just had one of those days that we could use an extra one–they’re all going to feel a little something.”
Siegrist threw long-toss on Wednesday and following today’s bullpen session will slide into the live BP schedule as early as Sunday.
“I really just try to work on first pitch for strikes with all my pitches and then when you get in game situations work on those strikeout pitches,” shared Siegrist, who will again be counted on out of the bullpen this season.
