Roster Additions

The St. Louis Cardinals announced the signing of four players to their roster on Tuesday–free agent Dean Anna was signed to the 40-man roster.

A 27-year old infielder, Anna led the Pacific Coast League (AAA) in batting in 2013 with a .331 mark and finished 2nd in the league with 38 doubles, earning selection to the league’s All-Star team.   He made his Major League debut in 2014, appearing in 12 games with the New York Yankees and hit his first Major League homer on April 10 vs. Boston.

11-11-14 Dean AnnaThe left-handed hitter is a native of Harvey, Ill.,  and combined to play in 65 games with triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre (Yankees) and Indianapolis (Pirates) in 2014, batting .207 with 2 HR’s and 21 RBI.

The team also agreed to terms with minor league free agent pitchers Marcus Hatley and Miguel Socolovich and re-signing infielder Scott Moore. All three will receive invitations to Spring Training with the team.

Moore was the Memphis Redbirds (AAA) regular third baseman in 2014 and batted .236 with 15 HR’s and 58 RBI in 121 games.   He has appeared in 152 career games in the big leagues, most recently with Houston in 2012.  Moore was the Detroit Tigers 1st round draft selection (8th player overall) in 2002.

Hatley, 26, was 2-6 with a 4.60 ERA in 45 games for the Iowa Cubs (AAA) in 2014.  The 6-5, 220-pound right-hander struck out 58 batters in 47.0 innings pitched and walked just 13.   He owns a career mark of 24-24, 4.25 ERA in 251 career minor league games since being drafted by the Cubs in 2006.

Socolovich, 28, compiled a 2-2 mark with a 3.64 ERA in 51 games with triple-A Las Vegas (Mets) and fanned 68 batters in 59.1 IP while walking just 19.   The 6-1, 195-pound native of Caracas, Venezuela appeared in a combined 12 games at the Major League level for Baltimore and the Chicago Cubs in 2012.   Socolovich has struck out 14 batters in 10.0 IP in his nine games pitched for Caracas in the Venezuelan Winter League.
