(Busch Stadium) Back in the cage this afternoon for batting practice, it may not be long before Tyler O’Neill is ready to be activated from the Injured List by the St. Louis Cardinals.
“Feeling good, healthy now so it’s an enlightening feeling to be able to do full activities,” O’Neill said. “What matters now is just getting at-bats and getting ready to come up and perform.”
The outfielder has been on the 10-day IL since August 1st, after an at-bat the day before aggravated the area between his wrist and middle of his hand. He was officially diagnosed with a left wrist strain.
“It just happened on a swing and the hand just swelled up out of nowhere,” O’Neill explained. “Freak accident. It was unfortunate, but it is what it is and you just gotta deal with it.”
Pending how today’s activities go, O’Neill expects to be re-evaluated tomorrow and then probably head to Memphis in the next couple of days. He began hitting soft toss about a week and half ago, but had to take a brief break.
Throwing has not been affected and O’Neill has been running almost daily to stay in shape.
“We’ve been doing everything,” O’Neill said of his rehab. “Needling to shockwave, getting rid of scar tissue, cold tub, hot tub, pretty much everything you can think of just getting me ready as soon as possible. We’re on the right track now.”
