As expected, Kolten Wong is back in the St. Louis Cardinals lineup as they open the NLDS in Atlanta this afternoon against the Braves. Wong missed the last nine games of the regular season with a left hamstring strain, but was available to pinch-hit as the Cardinals clinched the National League Central Division.
“I was going to try and get an AB but with four more days left now, I can let my hamstring really recover and be ready for the playoffs,” Wong explained postgame.
Starting at second base, Kolten will bat seventh in the lineup.
Wong has played every inning of the Cardinals last 12 postseason games and is tied with Miguel Cabrera and Jayson Werth for the MLB record with an extra base hit for his last nine postseason hits.
“You appreciate it a lot more,” Wong said. “When I first got up, it was like I expected it. Now (three) years of not being in the playoffs, it just feels so much–you just appreciate it so much more because you understand it doesn’t happen all the time.”
