It should be a relatively normal offseason injury-wise for the St. Louis Cardinals as General Manager John Mozeliak delivered an overall good report Monday morning.
Yadier Molina will continue to rest as he recuperates from his thumb ligament and oblique injuries. Rest is also all that is prescribed for Adam Wainwright.
“We did do some studies on him Friday,” shared Mozeliak about Wainwright. “Those all came back negative, so he should have a normal offseason. Just rest should do him wonders.
“Michael Wacha also had an MRI on Friday, happy to report that came back clean. Even the doctors were a little surprised on how well he looked. Ultimately, he should have a very normal offseason and come to Spring Training ready to go.”
Jaime Garcia remains “to be determined” until the left-hander arrives in Jupiter and the team can gain a better sense of where he’s according to Mozeliak.
Jon Jay will have his left wrist scoped on Wednesday, in what was termed as a “relatively simple procedure” on some cartilage. After a recovery of 6-8 weeks, Jay should be cleared for a normal offseason. Both Mozeliak and Mike Matheny were unsure of exactly how the injury occurred, but the training staff began dealing with it towards the end of July.
“He made a tactical decision to sort of lessen his load on a day-to-day basis as far as total swings,” shared Mozeliak. “Needless to say, the results were fabulous. Hopefully, from a strategic standpoint he keeps that going and we see that type of offensive production next year. Overall, I’ve been told this is a fairly minor scoping and he should be just fine.”
