Motte Update-Matheny’s Favorite Day

Posting via his Twitter account, @JMotte30, St. Louis Cardinals reliever Jason Motte updated he threw a simulated game this morning. The session of 20-25 pitches went well according to Motte–who also shared he was riding a light, grey stationary bike and would then shower and eat lunch.

-In his latest blog offering, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny details his three favorite days of Spring Training–the first, the last, and the day Matt Carpenter signed his contract extension…

“No golden road was paved for him, no extra chances, just an opportunity,” wrote Matheny. ” What he continued to do, was perform.  From one level to the next, with a very clear goal of “Getting Better Every Day,” Matt worked and willed himself into consideration for the MVP award of the National League in 2013.  For his accomplishments, and for the anticipation of even better things to come, the organization decided to reward Matt with a contract that will make him a Cardinal for 6 years.  I can’t tell you how happy that makes me, and how proud I am to see a dream like that come true for one of our guys.”

Not a surprise to read the skipper’s comments as he was very passionate earlier this spring when discussing the leadership role Carpenter has grown into…
