Though not a full-on bullpen session, reliever Jason Motte was back on the mound this morning as the St. Louis Cardinals continued their Spring Training workouts.
“It was more just getting off the mound—just being on the mound, getting back used to being up there again,” explained Motte, who threw about 15 pitches.
“Not just doing flat ground stuff. It’s another step forward from playing catch but not quite a bullpen.”
This was not the first time Motte has been on the mound since his Tommy John surgery, the reliever also did so in pregame during the World Series and again over the offseason—up to about 50-75% throwing bullpens.
Motte and trainer Adam Olson have been going on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday routine, but now plan to keep this new 2 day schedule, before eventually playing catch every day to work on building up arm strength.
