Molina vs Hamilton, Part III

It will be a renewed rivalry on the base paths between Yadier Molina and Billy Hamilton as the St. Louis Cardinals and Reds open a three game series in Cincinnati tonight. Molina has caught the last eight consecutive runners trying to steal on him and leads the National League (11-19, 58%) in gunning down runners.

Hamilton, who stole a pair of bases against Molina on April 9th, is tied for second in the NL with 16 steals overall. Coincidentally, Shelby Miller also made the start on April 9th but Hamilton’s second steal came with Pat Neshek on the mound. It led to Hamilton scoring a run–the last Neshek has allowed in 18 consecutive appearances.

Cincinnati returns Jay Bruce (meniscus surgery) from the disabled list and Ryan Ludwick, who had missed the last two games due to swelling around his left knee cap, to their lineup but will be without Joey Votto–who was placed on the disabled list Wednesday retroactive to May 16th with a distal quadriceps strain in his left knee. Bruce was activated in the corresponding move to Votto on Wednesday, but did not play in the game.
