The St. Louis Cardinals continue to adjust their roster as pitcher Mike Mayers has been activated from the 60-day Injured List and pitcher Chasen Shreve has been designated for assignment.
Mayers had been rehabbing from a right shoulder-lat strain and appeared in 10 games at Memphis during the recovery. He went 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 games (10.0 IP). Mayers opened the season with the Cardinals and appeared in eight games, going 0-1 with eight strikeouts in 8.1 innings pitched before he was placed on the Injured List on April 16th. He has missed 83 games.
The winner of last night’s game, Shreve appeared in three games for St. Louis after having his contract purchased on July 11th. He allowed two hits and two earned runs in his 2.0 innings pitched. Shreve was also DFA’d by the Cardinals in March and then outrighted to Memphis.
The Cardinals also announced that Matt Carpenter will begin a rehab assignment tonight with Memphis. Carpenter suffered a right foot contusion on July 15th and was placed on the IL the following day.
