Martinez Placed on DL

Prior to the start of today’s doubleheader in Chicago, the St. Louis Cardinals announced several roster moves–beginning with pitcher Carlos Martinez being placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.

The move is retroactive to July 20th.

Martinez pitched 5.0 innings and took the loss in Thursday’s series opener in Chicago. He spent 27 days on the disabled list earlier this season with a right lat strain.

On the season, Martinez is 6-6 with a 3.39 ERA in 17 starts.

Also announced today, pitcher Matt Bowman was optioned to Memphis (AAA) and reliever John Brebbia was recalled from the Redbirds. This is the fifth stint this season with St. Louis for Brebbia, who has a record of 1-3 with two saves and a 4.13 ERA.

Starter Miles Mikolas was reinstated from the paternity list and Luke Weaver was added to the roster under the “26th Man” rule for doubleheaders
