It was his 3-run homer in the 2nd inning last night that was the blow that knocked Cleveland’s Corey Kluber out of the game, but the home run also had some personal meaning for Jose Martinez. It was the 26th of his big league career, one more than his late father, Carlos, had during his MLB tenure.
“I’ve got a special, a guy that knows about numbers and stuff, so he actually told me I was one away–I feel very blessed,” said Martinez. “Just keep going. I always say that I’m going to do stuff for the people to remember him and today was one of those days.”
It was the second time in three games that Martinez delivered a 3-run homer and his 7 HRs and 19 RBIs in June are new monthly highs for the first baseman.
–After leaving last night’s game with a contusion from fouling the ball off his left ankle, Yairo Munoz is good to play tonight if called upon.

GREGERSON AND BOWMAN PROGRESSING
-Scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Friday, Luke Gregerson was getting in some extended drill work with Matt Bowman before today’s game. The reliever is hopeful that he will be sent out on a rehab assignment soon after that. Paul DeJong, who also took part in the drills, meets with doctors tomorrow with the expectation of being cleared for a rehab assignment.
Bowman is eligible to return from the DL on Friday.
