Kelly Takes the Mound

For the first time since April 16th, when he strained a hamstring trying to beat out an infield hit, Joe Kelly will be back on the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals as the right-hander has been activated from the disabled list and starts tonight against Milwaukee. Kelly had a league-leading 0.59 ERA at the time of his injury and in his last two rehab starts at Memphis allowed just one run in 8.1 innings pitched. He is expected to be on a 90-95 pitch count this evening.

SIEGRIST TO SPRINGFIELD

–Kevin Siegrist is en route to Springfield (AA) and is scheduled to pitch with team tomorrow as he rehab assignment begins. Back-to-back appearances and multiple innings are on the checklist with hopes the left-handed reliever could be ready to rejoin the Cardinals after the All-Star break.

MONTERO TAKES MOLINA’S SPOT

–Via press release, National League All-Star manager Mike Matheny of the St. Louis Cardinals announced today, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, that Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero will replace Yadier Molina of the Cardinals on the N.L.’s active roster for the 85th All-Star Game. In addition, Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy will replace the fan-elected Molina as the Senior Circuit’s starting backstop as a result of his standing on the N.L. Player Ballot.

Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox and Anthony Rizzo of the Chicago Cubs have also been added to the All-Stars rosters as they were chosen as the winners of the 2014 All-Star Game MLB.com Final Vote Sponsored by Experian.
