When Alex Reyes takes the mound tomorrow night in Memphis (AAA), he will have a familiar face behind the plate as Carson Kelly is also headed out on rehab assignment.
“I will catch Reyes tomorrow,” shared Kelly as he packed his equipment bag to be shipped out. “Pretty sure that Friday I’ll be in there as well. I would think, I don’t know, but I think the plan after that is to meet up with the team on Saturday but we’ll see how that goes.”
On the disabled list since May 16th with a hamstring strain, Kelly was behind the plate working out before today’s game.
“I feel good, just needed a few days to let the inflammation go down a little bit,” he said. “Continued with baseball activities the last three days and will take it into the game tomorrow.”
The injury for Kelly occurred in the Minnesota series when he was blocking a pitch. With his left leg out and the shift of his torso down, he felt the discomfort.
“Just a high, high hamstring and went deep into something that irritated it pretty good,” said Kelly. “A lot of inflammation so let that subside and then seeing where we’re at and now ready to go catch Alex.”
Recalled on May 6th from Memphis, Kelly has appeared in eight games with two hits in 19 at-bats.
