Of course what he did by stepping onto the field was more significant than what he did in playing on hit, Jackie Robinson still amassed an impressive 1518 hits and a .311 batting average in his 10-year big league career.
Against St. Louis, Robinson hit for a higher average than any other team other than Pittsburgh—batting .342 against both. He also had 16 HRs and 119 RBIs in 196 games against the Cardinals.
Bruce Sutter had his name added to the retired #42 by the Cardinals in 2006, after he was elected to the Hall of Fame.
