With no setbacks from bullpen sessions yesterday, St. Louis Cardinal relievers Matt Bowman and Greg Holland are ready for the next step towards their return from the disabled list.
“Both Holland and Bowman will start rehab assignments tomorrow in Memphis,” announced GM Michael Girsch. “We sort of penciled this out for about a week and then we’ll see where we stand.”
Every other day appearances are expected for the two at the beginning of the assignment with the potential to include back-to-back outings.
SHERRIFF HAS TOMMY JOHN
–After not being able to comment on the situation yesterday evening, Girsch was able to detail the circumstances around the reporting of pitcher Ryan Sherriff undergoing Tommy John surgery.
“Ryan was here in St. Louis last week and seen by the doctors, they recommended Tommy John surgery,” explained Girsch. “He chose to get a second opinion. He went out to LA to get that second opinion and to have the surgery,” explained Girsch. “Ryan posted before we had confirmation from the surgeons about what they actually did and how it went, so it was difficult to react to an Instagram post without having actually conferred with the surgeons, so there was an awkward period of ‘no comment’ from us.”
Girsch said the surgery went fine and Sherriff is now on the road to recovery.
–Congratulations to Greg Garcia and his wife Hannah, who welcomed their daughter Olivia to the world on Sunday. Greg shares that baby and momma are both doing well. He is expected back from paternity leave by Thursday.
