While times have still yet to be announced for the day/night double header on August 30th to make up for last night’s rain out against the Chicago Cubs, Mike Matheny reaffirmed he will be staying with the plan to simply push back the rotation for the St. Louis Cardinals.
“I think it’s a real good thing,” commented Matheny on the move–which among other things will Adam Wainwright some extra time between starts. “We’ll give him a couple extra days which I think’s very well-deserved. We kept him on regular rest, I think we had one day in Chicago we pushed him to stay on regular rest–looked like he could’ve probably used an extra one. He knows how to go no matter what we give him, but I know his body will probably appreciate getting those extra days.”
The rain out was the first of the year for St. Louis, which had not dealt with a rain out since May 31st of last season.
Matheny shared he learned of last night’s rain out via social media.
“Actually, I found out from one of the players who saw it on Twitter,” said the manager. “We had some meetings going on upstairs, everybody was trying to get everything done and it got out pretty quick. I think they were trying to keep everybody from flooding in here just to turn them around. Obviously, it was the right move because it just kept coming all night.”
Jaime Garcia, who had a good bullpen session on Thursday, is scheduled to make his first ML start of the season on Sunday.
MORE TIX FOR THE POOCHES
–The St. Louis Cardinals are releasing an additional 400 tickets for the 10th Purina Pooches in the Ballpark baseball game on Saturday, June 14.
These tickets will be located in two sections of the Right Field Pavilion (328 and 329). Unlike the all-inclusive Pooches in the Ballpark tickets, which sold out in less than 3 days, these tickets will require one ticket for the owner and one ticket for the dog; however, ticket holders will still participate in the pre-game parade around the field, receive consideration in the canine costume contest, and take home the commemorative Pooches in the Ballpark t-shirt, bandana and Purina/Cardinals branded blanket (the stadium-wide promotional giveaway for the game).
The cost per ticket is $40 ($80 total for one owner and one dog) and can be purchased at cardinals.com/pooches beginning on Friday, May 16 at 10 a.m. on a first come, first served basis.
