As the St. Louis Cardinals travel to Fort Meyers to take on the Minnesota Twins later today, Peter Bourjos will remain in Jupiter—not as veteran allowed to skip the trip, but rather for treatment on the tight hamstring which has kept him out of the lineup for the last couple of days.
“Yeah, I got a cramp the other day but it finally loosened up last night,” explained the outfielder. “It feels pretty good today.”
As a precaution, Bourjos hasn’t been in the Cardinals lineup since he suffered the discomfort on March 2nd when he had a double in three at-bats against the New York Mets.
“We’re just kind of going cautious on that,” shared Manager Mike Matheny. “Their testing him out and he’s got real good strength—which is always that sign we’re not looking at anything major but it was a little tender so we’re staying away from pushing him.”
“It wasn’t a strain or anything, it was a cramp,” said Bourjos, noting if this was the regular season it would have likely been a just miss one game scenario.
In Grapefruit League action, Bourjos is 2-5 (.400) with a run batted in and has scored a pair of runs.
