WAINO LOOKS FOR 20TH
–Four years and two days ago, Adam Wainwright won his 20th game of the season at Wrigley Field and the veteran looks to repeat that feat this evening.
“I have two starts left potentially and I’m thinking 21,” said Wainwright after his complete-game, shutout in his last start. “Why say 20 when you got two starts left? The idea and the goal is to win every one of them and we’ll just see where we fall.”
Wainwright is one of four pitchers (Chris Carpenter, Daryl Kile, Matt Morris) to win at least 20 games since 200o for the Cardinals.
MAGIC NUMBER 5
–St. Louis remains in first place in the N.L. Central, 2.5 games in front of Pittsburgh with a Magic Number of 5 to clinch their 2nd-straight NL Central title. The Cardinals are four wins in back of Washington (91) & two behind Los Angeles (89) for the top win total in the N.L and home-field advantage in the playoffs.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SKIPPER
–St. Louis Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny is celebrating his 44th birthday today.
