(Busch Stadium) It appears that St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Alex Reyes has suffered another setback in his bid to return to the big leagues. Starting tonight for Memphis at Oklahoma City, Reyes came out of the game in the 2nd inning with what the Cardinals announced as “right pectoral discomfort”.
Last June, Reyes had his season cut short after only four innings with St. Louis when he suffered a torn right lat. It was his first game with the Cardinals since undergoing Tommy John surgery in the spring of 2017.
Per the Cardinals, Reyes will be re-evaluated tomorrow.
Entering tonight, Reyes was 1-3 with a 7.67 ERA in nine starts for Memphis.
Here’s the entire Reyes mound visit. The only spot that trainer touches is the right shoulder. Doesn’t mean anything, exactly. Reyes reaction says it all pic.twitter.com/89JXulv1P6
