(Busch Stadium) The St. Louis Cardinals will have three familiar faces rejoining the team when rosters are allowed to expand on September 1st–catcher Carson Kelly, pitchers Daniel Poncedeleon and Tyler Webb.
“I’m excited to see them all, it’ll take place tomorrow obviously, they’re on the taxi squad today” said Mike Shildt.
As previously announced, Poncedeleon will be the starting pitcher tomorrow as the Cardinals make a change to push back their rotation.
“Weaver will start on Sunday, then we’ll go with Jack, and then Miles, and then back to Gant,” outlined Shildt.
It is not yet fully determined if Weaver–or even the likes of Adam Wainwright will formally join the rotation moving forward.
“When you’re looking at people who can eat innings, whether they’re starting, in the middle of the game, or at the end of the game that’s the most important,” said John Mozeliak. “If somebody can get us outs, that’s good.”
The 24-year old Kelly appeared in 12 games for St. Louis earlier this season when Yadier Molina was on the disabled list. He hit .269 with 7 home runs and 41 RBIs at Memphis this season.
Claimed off waivers from San Diego in June, Webb has made six appearances out of the bullpen this season for the Cardinals while going 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA in 30 games with Memphis.
Kelly will be wearing uniform number 19, while Poncedeleon sports 62 and Webb 30.
