Catcher Yadier Molina belted out a pair of milestones to help lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 14-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves tonight.
In the first inning, Molina stroked a double to match Rogers Hornsby (367) for fifth place on the Cardinals all-time list. He followed that up in the fourth inning by launching a blast to straight away centerfield with a pair of runners on base to mark the 150th home run of his career.
Molina is the thirteenth player in St. Louis franchise history to hit 150 home runs.
–Marcell Ozuna (12) and Kolten Wong (5) also hit three-run homers in the game as the Cardinals had 14 hits to match their 14 runs. Every starting player had at least one hit, including Jack Flaherty (6-3)–who did not allow a hit through the first five of his six innings pitched.
–For the first time this season, Jose Martinez entered the game with enough at-bats to qualify amongst the National League leaders. With one hit in four at-bats, Martinez is now batting .336 which ranks him third in the NL.
