Pitchers Génesis Cabrera, Giovanny Gallegos, Ryan Helsley, infielder Edmundo Sosa, and outfielder Adolis García were optioned to the Memphis (AAA).
The Cardinals also re-assigned non-roster pitchers Seth Elledge, Evan Kruczynski, Williams Pérez, and catchers Dennis Ortega and Julio Rodríguez to minor league camp.
The ten roster moves reduce the number of players in Major League Spring Training camp to 55, including 35 roster players.
MOLINA BACK BEHIND THE PLATE
–After collecting a hit and scoring a run as the designated hitter in his Grapefruit League debut yesterday, Yadier Molina returned to his familiar catching position today.
Molina handled all four innings from Adam Wainwright and another from Alex Reyes before Andrew Knizner took over the catching duties to start the 6th inning.
Wainwright allowed two hits with a walk and a strikeout and has yet to allow a run in 9.0 innings this spring. Reyes allowed two walks in his scoreless appearance.
