While the disappointment of Alex Reyes being placed on the disabled list won’t be erased, the St. Louis Cardinals did have some good news on the injury front as Yadier Molina is nearing his return to the active roster.
“Yadi is doing all baseball activities today,” said General Manager Michael Girsch. “Everything I’ve heard so far, that’s going fine. Unless something goes wrong in the next little bit, our plan would be to send him out on a rehab assignment in Springfield on Saturday and then go from there.”
On the disabled list since May 6th after a foul ball caused a traumatic hematoma and pelvic injury, Molina took part in batting practice and was at second base for some of his customary, warm-up infield drills. Earlier in the afternoon, he had gotten behind the plate to make some throws down to second.
“He will definitely play more than one,” said Girsch of Molina’s rehab assignment. “How many he plays will somewhat depend on how it goes, how he feels, how he recovers, all that sort of stuff. But it won’t be just a one day.”
Beginning on Friday, Springfield will have a three game homestand against San Antonio.
