The St. Louis Cardinals have placed Marcell Ozuna on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. The move allows rest for the outfielder and also provides roster relief for the team as both Matt Adams and Yairo Munoz have been added to the 25-man squad.
Ozuna started in left field and had a pair of hits last night, including his 16th home run of the season. He has been wearing a compression sleeve all season to help manage an arm issue.
Assigned uniform number 15, Adams was clamied off waivers yesterday afternoon from Washington, while Munoz returns from a 10-day disabled list after a right wrist sprain caused him to miss the last 11 games.
In addition, the Cardinals optioned pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon to Memphis (AAA). After throwing 4.0 innings in last night’s start, Poncedeleon would’ve been unavailable for the next few days and is all but certain to return when the rosters can expand on September 1st.
Likewise, Ozuna is eligible to come off the DL on September 1st so for now the Cardinals have been able to add back to their roster without having to float anyone through waivers.
Reliever Dominic Leone is on a 30-day rehab assignment at Memphis which began on August 1st. He has allowed 13 hits and 7 earned runs in nine outings, each of 1.0 innings.
Adam Wainwright is in the midst of a rehab assignment at Springfield and Michael Wacha threw 0.2 innings to start his own 30-day rehab assignment at Palm Beach (A+) on August 18th.
